C&S Gutters’ Abel Cisneros: Prioritizing Quality and Customer Service
Abel Cisneros, co-owner of C&S Rain Gutters, started his gutter operation in 2003 with a used New Tech Machinery (NTM) Mach II gutter machine and a clear vision—to deliver top-notch gutters to his community of Greeley, Colorado. Over the years, his small business has grown, and he has since purchased three new NTM Mach II 5”/6” combos and has a team of 15 employees. He runs the business with his wife, Vanessa.
After trying his hand at construction and landscaping in the 1990s, Abel found his way to fabricating and installing gutters. When he started on his own, he wanted a top-of-the-line gutter machine. New Tech Machinery stood out for him for its technology and consistent performance, making it invaluable to his growing business.
“Our primary customers are anyone who needs gutters,” Abel explains, as C&S has become a go-to gutter operation in northern Colorado. Known affectionately as “the short Mexican guy who does gutters,” Abel’s reputation precedes him, a testament to the quality of his gutters and dedication to customer service.
Abel’s leadership extends beyond just doing business; it’ represents about a commitment to making a difference in people’s daily lives. “To help people with their gutters, to make a difference in their day and their years to come—that’s what keeps me going,” he says.
Challenges are a part of any operation, and Abel’s seen the price of metal increase over the past few years. Also, there’s the task of finding skilled and reliable employees who demonstrate the same work ethic and dedication as he. His approach goes beyond technical skills; it involves understanding and evaluating individuals based on their character and life experience. If he finds a worker who doesn’t fit in one role but has skills and motivation, he tries to find another position for them. For example, one worker who had problems with heights fit right in helping run the office. He has employees who have been with him for a decade or more, and one as long as 18 years.
Abel’s longtime partnership with New Tech Machinery is valuable to his operation. Abel credits NTM’s Mach II gutter machines for contributing to the success of C&S Rain Gutters. “The consistency and customer service—they’ve always been there,” he says.
The real satisfaction from his business doesn’t come from NTM, however, but through interacting with his customers. “I like to talk to customers not just about the gutters, but to get to know who they are and what they do. We like to get to know the customers, and we have great conversations.”
It’s this personal touch that sets Abel and Vanessa apart. They center their business around customers and the customer experience. As a result, Abel enjoys a solid reputation in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming that keeps the orders coming in. As successful business owners know, word of mouth is the best source of advertising.
Abel and Vanessa work together as a team, as he knows all about the customer end of the business, how to run and install gutters, and likes to be out in the field talking to customers. His wife is a former banker who had studied accounting; however, she still had a learning curve when it came to running a gutter operation. “Everything here is self-taught,” she says. “It’s not like what you learn in school.”
She’s proven her abilities to manage the office, keep the books and make sure they remain financially sound. At the same time, she tells Abel, “If you need the machine and you think it will make money, don’t ask, just get it.” It’s this mutual trust and balance of skills that keeps the operation running smoothly and improving year to year.
Another aspect of customer relations for C&S Gutters is educating customers on the value of seamless gutters. Gutter forming from a portable seamless machine is impressive, especially when they expected prefabricated gutter sections to be delivered and hung. “Seamless gutters is what sets us apart,” Vanessa says.
“Sometimes we set a gutter that’s 80 or 100 feet. People are so impressed they take a video of it,” Abel adds.
Looking ahead, Abel remains committed to excellence. Abel’s recommendation for anyone considering the best equipment for gutter installations: “Anytime, any day, any year, I will always go back to New Tech Machinery.” His journey is not just about business but about passion, quality, and making a meaningful impact with each gutter installation.
