Why Choose Metal Siding?

Metal siding is projected to grow by 66% worldwide, from $3.5 billion to $5.8 billion, by 2034. In the past few years since releasing our board & batten profile for the SSQ MultiPro, we’ve heard from contractors how metal siding is growing in their regions in residential and commercial sectors.

Like standing seam roofing, metal siding comes with the benefits of metal:

  • 26 gauge steel option (the standard setting for the SSM)
  • 60+ year lifespan.
  • 40+ year manufacturer’s finish warranty
  • Fire resistance

What Benefits Does the SSM Offer?

Production speed

SSM is rated at 45 feet per minute with 26-gauge steel, a realistic everyday production rating. The motor and shear are designed with additional speed capability, and actual speeds may vary by material, profile, setup, and field conditions.

Coil/ Panel Width Capacity

Infinitely adjustable for 9” to 16” coil, the SSM supports multiple widths. Final panel coverage depends on the selected profile and setup. Board & batten and reverse board & batten support 2” to 14” batten widths.

New Tech Machinery’s SSM portable metal siding machine introduces a new era of metal siding production by brining to market what we’re built on: Giving contractors control of their production at the jobsite.

What Profiles Does the SSM Run?

The SSM currently runs four profile options, with more planned in the future. The current profile options are:

  • Board & Batten / Reverse Board & Batten: Strong fit for modern farmhouses, barndominiums, and high-end residential work. Can be installed vertically or horizontally.
  • Dutch Lap / Double Dutch Lap: Traditional siding appearance for barns, rural structures, and residential projects. Designed for horizontal installation over solid substrate.
  • Double Horizontal: Contemporary log-look or clapboard-style option for commercial, multifamily, and residential applications. Installed horizontally over solid, flat substrate.
  • Single Horizontal: Flexible option for agricultural buildings, sheds, warehouses, and other utility-oriented applications. Can be installed vertically or horizontally.

What Materials Can the SSM Run?

The SSM portable rollformer is capable of running the following materials with minimal adjustments:

  • 26 gauge steel/ ZAM (standard factory setting)
  • 28 and 29 gauge steel
  • .032” and .027” aluminum

What Makes the SSM Siding Machine Unique?

Like our other portable rollformers, the SSM is designed for ease of use. Unlike our other portable rollformers, the SSM was built from the ground up with new design features.

SSM features include:

  • Embosser: Embosser can be easily engaged or disengaged. Embosses wood pattern onto the panel. More embosser options will be available in the future.
  • Quick-change cartridges: Faster profile changes mean less downtime and more productive crew time.
  • Center-forming: Both sides adjust together, helping keep the tooling centered and reducing setup complexity.
  • Profile-specific shear: Supports a cleaner, more professional panel cut.
  • No-slug fastener flange: Less loose scrap in the machine and around the jobsite.
  • Familiar New Tech operation: Designed to feel approachable for customers familiar with New Tech portable rollforming equipment.
  • Serviceability: External lubrication access, accessible drive rollers, and automatic chain tensioning support uptime.

The enclosed control system includes a variable frequency drive (VFD), PLC batch controller, motor controller, and RFID-capable safety relay. Covers, viewing windows, internal work lights, and RFID-enabled diagnostics are designed to help crews operate more safely, identify issues faster, and return the machine to production sooner.
